We will do all we can to help our students achieve qualifications, including NCEA We understand that school isn't the right place for everyone, and have created an environment in which our students can be themselves and grow in self confidence We encourage our students and won't ever judge them We work in small groups with lots of one on one tutoring We treat our students like young adults, not school pupils We will help our learners study towards - and pay for- their learner licence We have a qualified career advisor on site to help students make sound career choices and to help them prepare for employment or further training Our youth courses are FREE; there are no hidden costs We offer a pick and drop off service (within the town centre area only, does not apply to outer suburbs)

Who can do our courses?

Students who meet all of the Youth Guarantee criteria are eligible. Students must be aged 16-24 at the time of commencing study, and must not have completed NCEA Level 2 or an equivalent qualification. Priority is given to learners who are new to tertiary study, and to existing students wishing to advance to our Level 3 programme. Students who are 15½ years of age with an Early Leaving Exemption may also be considered on a case by case basis. Once eligibility has been established, students are selected by interview. Selection is based on a number of things including age (preference is usually given to those aged 16 and over), how suitable the course is for the student's goals, attitude to learning, ability to function in an adult environment, as well as the likelihood of course completion and progression on to employment or further education.

Lakeland Learning aims to continually operate at the ‘cutting edge’ of second chance education. We have a long history of successful outcomes achieved by our learners. The Company draws strength from being small and specialised, enabling tutoring methods to remain flexible and mobile and programmes to be sufficiently individualised to accommodate each student’s needs. Students work in a highly supportive and caring environment and are tutored by well qualified staff. At Lakeland Learning we operate as a whanau and not as an institution. We have created a culture of inclusiveness and friendliness in which students can learn without fear and achieve their goals.

	Our Premises We are proud to offer our students the opportunity to learn in our lovely new premises. Completed in January 2018, we have three purpose built tutoring rooms, each containing the latest computers. All enrolled students are provided with their own on-line access to Office 365, which can be used on up to five devices, allowing students to access their work off site. There is also a shared common area complete with kitchen, where students can relax, make snacks and refreshments.
